tv news, at least in the united states, is pretty much utter crap. i think there are two important reasons why. first is that The Powers That Be have an interest in the masses not actually knowing jack shit about what of importance is going on in the world. second is that even if the news told us, we would only end up feeling powerless and feeling depressed and would tune out.
so i think one way to fix it might be to have news which includes proactive things you can do. like, the news organization would go out of its way to make it as easy as possible for you to register your desired outcome to your governmental reps. of course, this ignores how the reps get to be the reps in the first place, but maybe that would be resolved as a knock-on effect of improving the news.
